The intention of this body of work is to expand the meaning of embroidery thread and textile as a medium by exploring the different ways it can be used and allowing my process to be evident in the work itself. Process in my art is very much dictated by my chosen materials and the feeling that they evoke at the time I’m working. A time-consuming medium, embroidery does evoke a sense of tradition. This tradition, however, is one developed from the pride that comes with labor, not one that adheres to gendered stereotypes. My hope is that all viewers approach these works with different desires and perceptions and find themselves in a space that allows them to question their own relationship with domestic objects or media.
